A major refinery in Port Arthur, Texas suffered a shut down in their gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) when an explosion rocked the facility and ruptured the riser line. Someone needed to cut a window in the line so repair crews could fix the problem. Hot cutting was not an option — there could not be a "heat-affected zone" or HAZ. Water Jet-Cutting needed to be performed immediately if not sooner.
Inland was called into action on a Sunday morning. Response
time was critical.
Inland assessed the situation from an engineering and safety perspective. High-rise platforms and Inland's ultra-high pressure jet-cutting equipment were required. The equipment and two three-man crews were in route to the facility before Noon.
Inland worked well into the night to complete the task. Once the window was cut into the line, the crews pulled out and the facility's repair teams got to work on fixing the problem.
This wasn’t an extraordinary problem with extraordinary solutions, but rather a normal function of Inland — predictable and reliable results — time and time again. "This is what we do, time is money and emergencies come any ‘ol time, this one came on a Sunday!" Wade Russell, Inland. "We just had to get there fast, cut a window in the line, and get out of the way fast."
"Your guys did an outstanding job, they were extremely
knowledgeable, professional and very courteous during
their short stay."
