Situation:
A Midwestern power plant was having significant difficulties with their coal feeder chutes due to high levels of ambient moisture and mechanical equipment failures. These two chutes deliver the primary source of fuel for the plant and it was critical that electricity production was not interrupted due to these problems.
IISG was asked to analyze the situation and make recommendations. To expedite the process and limit down time, plant management asked IISG to clean only one chute, the other chute was awarded to a competitor.
