IISG - Petrochemical
Situation:

A major petrochemical processing facility experienced a major upset in a fluidized bed oligimer cracking reactor. The system upset resulted in over 80% of the reactor becoming solidified with a polymeric caprolactam type polymer and catalysts.

The site based industrial service contractor attempted removing the solid deposits using high pressure water techniques. The deposit was extremely hard (like steel) and resisted multiple attempts to remove it including 40,000psi ultra-high pressure water. The contractor worked this conventional approach for a month and had little success.
